Reno O. Smith, daughter of the late Willie Smith and Madie Peacock Smith, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2017. Reno was born January 9, 1927 in Raleigh, NC, where she received her primary and secondary education and graduated with a teaching degree from Shaw University. Upon graduation, she relocated to the NY/NJ area where she obtained her license in cosmetology and later obtained her Master's degree at Kean University, Union, NJ.

Reno had a philanthropic spirit, most notably as the president of the Morris County Branch of the NAACP for over 20 years, where she dedicated her life to fighting for the rights and advancements of minorities. Reno was also a Golden Life Member.

Throughout her life, she devoted herself to helping others and supporting the community as a volunteer at the Cancer Center at Morristown memorial Hospital, an Auxiliary Police Officer in Morristown and as a founding member of CHETS of Morris County (Community Helpers Emphasizing Teenage Support) working with eighth graders to prepare them for high school.

In addition to her community activities, Reno was an active member of Union Baptist Church, Morristown, NJ, was an avid traveler and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved life and was once featured as an Ebony Bachelorette in their May 1977 issue.

To cherish her memory, Reno leaves her devoted brother, James Edward Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Smith and sisters, Doris Smith Whitaker, and Ora Lee S. McCullough.
