Virgil was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Cross, South Carolina before joining Union Baptist Church in Morristown, NJ.

While growing up in South Carolina, Virgil attended the Cross public school system where he received the education that would later shape him in adulthood. He loved the outdoors, as a youth, you could find him outside building something out of cardboard or whatever he could find. He loved playing games; two of his favorites were shooting marbles and horse. He was considered a champion among friends and friends.
As a teenager, Virgil moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to live with relatives. After five years, he moved to Morristown, New Jersey where he met and married Carolyn Hundley. To this union, two children were born, Lisa and David.

Virgil was commonly known as a hardworking man, never passing up the opportunity to help his fellow man. He was employed with the McWilliams Forge Co. as a security guard. He later joined the Atlas Sound Company in Parsippany, NJ as an electronic Technician and after their closing he found employment at Allied Chemical Honeywell as a Supervisor. Virgil was also employed by the Tetley Tea Company in Morris Plains, NJ as a night Supervisor until his retirement.

Virgil loved life and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed the little things in life, such as keeping a nice clean car and would show them off every time he got the chance. Every vacation, family reunion or road trip, Virgil would always offer to drive his nice clean car. When life threw him a curve, he did not give up. He fought a good fight throughout the duration of the illness. He continued to be a pillar within his family finding the strength to give of himself to his family and friends.

Although Virgil has passed on, he will not be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Nellie, his sister Dorothy Ramsey and twin brothers Paul and Silas Ramsey.
