Memorial for John Alvin Bailey, III

Born in Morristown, New Jersey on Jul. 29, 1947
Departed on Jan. 23, 2017 and resided in Toledo, OH.

John Alvin Bailey, III (Damu) was born on July 29, 1947 at All Souls Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey to Evelyn Taylor Bailey and John Alvin Bailey, Jr.

He passed away peacefully on January 23, 2017 of colorectal cancer in Toledo, Ohio.
John attended East Orange High School, East Orange, New Jersey, Xavier University in New Orleans and the County College of Morris, Randolph, New Jersey.

He devoted his life to helping children and at-risk youth. John was employed at the Salvation Army in Morristown where he taught martial arts and counseled young children and teenagers and also worked as a volunteer at The Neighborhood House. He personally funded several camping trips to Stokes State Park for the children and on several occasions, he donated his own trophies so that each child would have one and there would be no losers, only winners. John later worked as a Counselor for the Devereaux Foundation in Chester, New Jersey, a live-in facility for troubled teens and runaways.

John leaves to mourn his dear mother, Evelyn and brother, Wayne, his children Funeka, Jaza, Akida and April, 7 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is pre-deceased by his brothers, William (Butchie) Bailey, Frankie Bailey and his adopted brother, Morris (Houcie) Everett.
